Folic acid is the primary vitamin which helps body divide replicate cells and grow tissue (it helps produce RNA and DNA). This is why it is so important to have plenty during pregnancy otherwise birth defects occur. Folic acid deficiency will cause irritability weakness sleeping difficulties and pallor. Oral contraceptives deplete this vitamin greatly. There is also an increased need for folic acid during or after any time the body needs to repair itself.
