HMF Natogen provides a highly-concentrated, ratio-specific combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium infantis, essential to the development and maturation of the newborn’s immune system. Studies show that microflora imbalances in the newborn can increase the risk of childhood allergy and susceptibility to infectious disease, leading diminished immunological protection, nutritional malabsorption and decreased capacity to detoxify harmful compounds in later years. Bifidobacterium infantis is crucial in the newborn infant and helps stimulate the immune system and colonize the lower gastrointestinal tract. HMF Natogen is recommended for all newborns in order to properly develop the immune system and, thereby, assist with the prevention of allergies and infectious disease.
The HMF probiotic products contain human-compatible adhesion strains, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifido infantis, which is the only product line of its kind in North America. All other probiotics are made from animal or dairy strains and may not adhere as well to the human gastrointestinal tract.

Antibiotic Use
Probiotics supplementation is important for preventing and treating antibiotic-induced diarrhea. L. acidophilus has been shown to correct the increase of gram-negative bacteria that occurs following the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.7 This increase in gram-negative bacteria occurs with acute and chronic diarrhea.
Lowering risk of allergy, infection, and auto-immune problems
There is now significant recognitionabout thecritical importance of the developing healthy bacterial flora in the neonate and infant as it can largely determine future health concerns.
From having a sterile G.I. tract at birth, the neonate acquires microbial flora from the first day of life, and this flora is then responsible for a major part of the development of the entire infant immune system. It is now acknowledged that imbalances in the flora of the neonate may significantly increase the risk of childhood allergy and susceptibility to infectious disease. Consequently, it is now seen as imperative that the infant has a competent composition of microflora from the first day of life and that this can be achieved by supplementation with probiotic organisms daily from birth.
HMF Natogen has been developed specifically for the child up to 12 months of age. It contains the HMF strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus plus Bifidobacterium infantis, which, as its name suggests, is the strain of Bifidobacterium most suited to the newborn infant. L. acidopilus will target and stimulate the mucosal immune system in the upper part of the G.I. tract and the B. infantis will stimulate the immune system and become established in the lower gut.
HMF Natogen is in a very concentrated form so that only 100mg is required to give a full dosage of 2 billion HMF organisms. The only carrier is lactose, which is milk sugar and is assimilable by all infants. The product can be administered to the infant in formula milk, expressed breast milk, or by simply allowing the child to suckle powder from a finger or knuckle that has been dipped into the product.
Are HMF products shipped with an ice pack?
No. But, youmay request one at checkout for an extra fee. After extensive product testing and new freeze drying technology performed by Genestra, it was concluded that the ice pack did not make a difference during shipping since the product potency was still well over 100% label claims when shipped with ice or no ice. The manufacturer states that it is no longer necessary to ship the HMF products with an ice pack for these reasons:
1. Genestra has added in 50% more probiotic than what the label guarantees per bottle. For example, HMF Forte is guaranteed to have 6 billion L. acidophilus per serving, but there are 12 billion present at time of manufacturing and it is kept frozen until shipping.
2. October 2004: The manufacturer has increased product stability again, allowing the probiotics to last up to 6 months at room temperature holding their GUARANTEED minimum potency on label!
3. You will receive your HMF probiotic directly from the manufacturer in about 3-5 days. This product is very fresh and has not been sitting around on our shelves. And, you are guaranteed it will contain 50% more than what the label states.
How do I travel with my HMF probiotics?
We highly recommend you take your probiotics with you on all trips and vacations since their potency will last for up to6 months at room temperature un-refrigerated. But, when possible and if convenient, we recommend you store your probiotics in the freezer or refrigerator, especially if you plan to preserve freshness of your product for months or years.
