Promotes Bone Mass & Strength*
Supports Normal Blood Function*

BACKGROUND
The name Vitamin K originated from the German word Koagulationsvitamin for its involvement in blood clotting. Dietary sources of Vitamin K include green leafy vegetables, broccoli, brussels sprouts, plant oils and margarine. Daily supplementation should be considered since only small amounts are stored in body tissues.

PRODUCT DISCUSSION
Vitamin K-2, also known as menaquinone, may be more bioactive in promoting bone health compared to other forms of Vitamin K found in the diet.* Unlike synthetic forms of Vitamin K, Physiologics Vitamin K-2 is derived from a natural whole food, a form of soy known in Japan as natto.

STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
Vitamin K-2 is involved in the formation of prothrombin, which is required for normal blood clotting.* It activates enzymes and plays a role in synthesizing a key protein responsible for bone formation, helping to maintain bone mass and strength.* Vitamin K also supports joint health.* Menaquinones are available in small amounts in some fruits, meat, fish and dairy products; natto is the richest food source.

CLINICAL EVIDENCE

  • A study evaluating vitamin K status in post-menopausal women ingesting varying amounts of natto demonstrated significantly higher circulating levels of menaquinone-7 that were sustained over time. Significant improvements in bone health were observed with the highest intake of natto (p=0.03) which contains a large amount of menaquinone-7. Comparison to other studies examining intake of other forms of soy such as tofu found that only natto was associated with improved bone health. This study indicates that menaquinone-7 (MK-7, the form of K2 used in our product) plays an important role in bone metabolism. (Ikeda et al, 2006)
  • A cohort study of 944 Japanese women, aged 20-79 years, was conducted for 3 years to assess the effect of dietary intake of natto, a potent source of MK-7 on bone mineral density (BMD). At the end of 3 years, a significantly positive association was found between natto intake and BMD: the rate of bone loss in the femoral neck in post-menopausal women was significantly decreased as natto intake increased (p<0.0001). (Kaneki et al, 2001)

SUMMARY
Physiologics Vitamin K-2, derived from a form of soy known as natto, may be a more bioactive form of Vitamin K for promoting bone health.*

SUGGESTED DOSAGE
For adults, one (1) softgel daily, preferably with a meal, or follow the advice of a healthcare professional.
